General Internal Medicine Statewide Preceptorship Program

Since 1992, the General Internal Medicine Statewide Preceptorship Program (GIMSPP) has placed first and second year medical students with internists across Texas for two-week, three-week, or four-week summer preceptorships.

Preceptorships are available on a best-matched basis. Both ‘Urban’ and ‘Rural/Underserved’ preceptorships are offered, and vary each year based on availability.

Our 2019 Application has closed. Interested Students may apply for the 2020 program in January.

Texas currently faces a shortage of physicians – especially in primary care. In an effort to curtail this trend, GIMSPP was established to help medical students to learn how to care for real patients in real practices. Together with physician mentors, students are learning to build healthier communities through the practice of internal medicine.
